  • University of Maryland University College (UMUC) - My institution, of course. UMUC is a national leader in distance education. There are over 30,000 students in our Maryland and national programs. The Open learning program delivers over 100 distance education courses to more than 7000 part-time adult students. UMUC has over 80,000 students world-wide.
  • Athabasca University, Alberta Canada - Definitely worth a visit. Athabasca is Canada's "open" university and is almost entirely a distance university. It has a complete undergraduate program and also offers an online Masters of Distance Education and an online MBA.
  • TeleEducation NB - assists in the the delivery of distance education courses in the province of New Brunswick, Canada.
  • Simon Fraser University - British Columbia, Canada. They have a Centre For Distance Education.

  • University of Illinois Here's a specific on-line course being offered by the University of Illinois. It's a good example of a class in progress.
  • University of Phoenix Another great example of an on-line campus. This institution has grown tremendously in the past year or so.
  • California Coast University Besides a great front-page graphic, this is another university offering on-line courses that offers us a chance to look at how they do it.

  • The Open University of the United Kingdom Home Page - Britain's Open University is one of the first truly open institutions of higher learning and has become a model for similar institutions throughout the world. The OU is widely known for the high quality of its teaching materials, publications, and its innovative use of television in collaboration with the BBC.

  • The International University Consortium (IUC) A consortium of over 50 colleges and universities world-wide that share in the development and use of distance education courses. IUC also sponsors workshops on training in Distance Education.

  • The Sloan Foundation: Asynchronous Learning Networks
  • Pathways to Philosophy Distance Learning Programme
    Pathways is an independent distance learning project based at the Department of Philosophy, University of Sheffield and run in association with the Philosophical Society of England, which is based at Newcastle University. The Pathways web site contains a wealth of material of interest to anyone who might be thinking of doing a course in philosophy, and includes extracts from the six Pathways distance learning programmes, a study guide, introductory book list, and examples of students' work.
